International performer, wellness educator, and teacher in the art of movement and story, Zuleikha inspires dynamic creativity and rejuvenation through movement. Zuleikha’s training comes from years of intensive study with master teachers of healing and movement in both Eastern and Western traditions.
Zuleikha grew up in a musical family, studying classical piano and flute. She worked for years with American dancer and avant-garde choreographer Anna Halprin, West Coast pioneer of natural movement. She attended the Ali Akbar College of Music and Dance in San Francisco, which was established by the great musician from India, Ali Akbar Khan. There she studied the classical dance form Kathak with dance master Chitresh Das. Kathak originated in North India. Its elements include story, rhythm, and pure movement. Zuleikha studied Eastern classical music and song in Afghanistan with Ustad Hashim Chishti and toured North America as a dancer with his musical company. While living and dancing in Bali, she was given permission by master dancers to carry costumes of beauty back to the West. She has practiced many movement forms from Asia and has danced and taught in temples in Japan.
From this extensive multicultural training, Zuleikha has created a unique movement language, which she draws from in all aspects of her work.
