Aurora Concert Video Excerpts

Acclaimed master of the electric violin, TRACY SILVERMAN, and renowned Storydancer, ZULEIKHA, join forces in a spellbinding performance of improvisational music, story, dance and humor.

TRACY SILVERMAN was named one of 100 distinguished alumni by The Juilliard School, and is the world’s first concert electric violinist. Formerly first violinist with the innovative Turtle Island String Quartet, Silverman is on the faculty at Belmont University and Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, and is a devoted teacher of youths of all ages and levels, in developing alternative string styles, from classical to jazz to improvisation.

ZULEIKHA is an award-winning international performer, educator and humanitarian who uplifts audiences with her humorous, soul-stirring performances and has collaborated with numerous award-winning, world musicians and poets, including Coleman Barks, poet and interpreter of Rumi, world percussionist, Glen Velez, maverick cellist, David Darling, and avant-garde composer/pianist, Terry Riley. Founder and executive director of the non-profit organization, The Storydancer Project, Zuleikha has created unique tools for greater health called Take a Minute™ Core Wellness Exercise and Body Listening Movement Arts, which are being used worldwide to help people improve wellness and create empowered responses to chronic stress and trauma.

TSP News from Delhi ~ January 2015

TSP News from Delhi ~ January 2015

Director of Hope Project with Zuleikha and HP staff

January 5, 2015 - First Meeting of 2015 with Hope Project Director and Staff in Delhi, India.

Samiur Rahman, the executive director, is wonderful. He is able to to decipher each person’s code to really understand how they would like to see the Core Wellness work take place. Each woman in the meeting has her own expression and is listened to.

I am excited, as what we are planning this year will catapult us into participating in the bigger picture of this community. Here, many families are living in one room with all the children, and often no running water. To see a woman experience relief of stress and body pain through stretching and moving in a simple way is its own work of art, and a privilege.

Tomorrow I will go to CanSupport where we work with palliative cancer patients, their families, and the Home Care Teams to begin scheduling this year’s expanded programs. Will keep you posted! ~ Zuleikha

Mountains of garbage

January 8, 2015 - Boarding the Joy Train

Today, we were visiting a ‘village’ inside of the vast city of Delhi, with the Hope Project’s Mobile Health Unit. As you can see, it is built under mountains of garbage…I will be going here every week to work with the women’s groups and children’s support classes. Here we go, it starts again—the joy train!

OUR WORK

OUR WORK

WHAT WE DO

The Storydancer Project (TSP), a non-profit international artistic health resource organization, serves girls, women, children and families facing challenging life circumstances by providing innovative Core Wellness Exercise and Movement Arts programs and trainings that foster and enliven greater health, self-esteem, resilience and leadership. TSP is a 501(c)(3) organization, based in Santa Fe, NM, which offers its programs free of charge. TSP works in partnership with organizations and communities locally and globally. We particularly focus on collaborating to create sustainable, train-the-trainer programs that provide the most effective long-term support for our partnering communities.

TSP’S CORE WELLNESS MODEL

TSP’s Core Wellness Exercise and Movement Arts Model incorporates exercise, movement, rhythm, music and story to develop a resilient and enlivened sense of self, strengthen participants’ connection to their bodies and establish a sound foundation for joy and health.

HOW WE CAME ABOUT

TSP was created in 2001 by Zuleikha to address the lack of wellness education and resources for girls and women locally and internationally and to bring rejuvenation, leadership and self-care skills to girls, women, children and families facing challenging life circumstances such as poverty, illness, war, and natural disasters.
